Chachoengsao Northeastern Regional Observatory

History

Chachoengsao Northeastern Regional Observatory is built on a 36-rai land in Chachoengsao. It consists of two-story shell shaped building and is divided into 2 zones as follows. 1. Fiberglass clamshell dome with a diameter of about 18 feet, can be opened to view the sky around. Inside the dome is a telescope of 0.5 meters in diameter. 2. Star watching deck under a rectangle roof has two 14-inch telescopes, two 6-inch telescopes, and two solar telescopes installed and roof is controlled with electric motors. -Planetarium has a semi-circular roof. A 10-meter diameter dome with a 25-megapixel full-dome digital projector can accommodate up to 50 audiences at a time. Model of solar system, objects in the space, and astronomical phenomena are exhibited throughout. -Observation deck for outdoor astronomical observatories displays astronomical drawings for more than 100 meters long around the wall of the observatory. -Botanical observatory is a conserved botanical garden of edible plants and cultivars. The area is about 18 rai and used as a public park for people to relax as well as activities sponsored by the community and the government. This is one of the regional observatory projects for the people by the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) to be a learning center in eastern and central regions as well as nearby provinces.

From Chachoengsao city, use Route 304 Chachoengsao-Kaminburi, at Bangkla intersection, head to Phleng Yai (3121) and turn to Wang Yen-Nong Beu Road, look for entrance sign for Chachoengsao Northeastern Regional Observatory.
