Wat Pitulathirajrungsarit (Wat Mueang)

ประวัติความเป็นมา

Wat Pitulathirajrungsarit or Wat Mueang is another important historical site, which was built during the settlement of Chachoengsao in 1834 together with the construction of a fortress and walls to define the boundary of Padrew. It was a barrier used to safeguard the city and the residents from the enemy. Artisans from the capital employed architectural styles similar to Phra Plang of the Emerald Buddha Temple in Bangkok. Only minor details differed. Moreover, people who had faith in the religion helped build the temple as a city sacred place and as a refuge in the time of war. Because this temple is located in the city, hence the name “Wat Mueang”. Later in 1908, King Rama 5 made a royal visit to Chachoengsao, the name "Wat Pitulathirajrungsarit” was given, which means the temple built by the King’s uncle.
